Valentine's Day Pretzels

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Don't you love all the goodies out there when its Valentine's Day? I love pink so for me its like Christmas again. Love the pink decor the pink candy, pink stuffed animals and all the pink baking supplies to add to my collection.
I also get so many orders for my chocolate dipped pretzels since they are a favorite of a lot of my clients. Why would Valentine's Day be different?
My Chocolate pretzels are alway double even triple dipped with milk or white chocolate. For Valentines day we even dip into pink chocolate. Then we cover them with pink and white or red and white sprinkles and top them off with a candy heart.
These are in high demand, and I will only be taking orders until February 5. Right now if you order from my Etsy site you will receive free shipping. But please order early. I hate turning people away.
Remember they make great party favors and lets not forget our teachers! We all work so hard so an extra treat is always nice!

Candy Candy Candy

My client base is growing and I am so excited. I get a lot of emails from people who do not live near me and need help with their candy tables for their wedding or event. I always love the opportunity to help and make someones event come out great. I help as long as they promise to share their pictures with me. It makes me feel like I had something to do with the party. Since I have so many out of state emails. (Sometimes over 50 a day) I wanted to share with you the candy I can supply you in all colors. Everything from gumballs to Gummies and lets not forget chocolate. I will not ship chocolate during the summer months. If I do it will cost more to keep it cool. I am starting to add the candy to my Etsy site. It takes a lot of time. Right now I am in the process of adding Valentine's Day candy. SO if there is something you need or want make sure to order it fast. I will only ship the candy in a medium or large priority box. If you have any questions email me. I am always here to help!
Have a Sweet Day!!

National Chocolate Cake Day

National Chocolate Cake Day

Today is National Chocolate Cake Day! Cakes have a rich culinary history. In Greece, cakes (or “plakous”) were heavy and flat, and people served them with nuts and honey. The Romans made cakes that were more like cheesecake or pastry, and presented them as offerings to the gods. In Medieval England, people used the words “bread” and cake” interchangeably to refer to anything made with flour dough.
A company called O. Duff and Sons pioneered the first boxed cake mix in the late 1920s. In 1947, after years of research and development, General Mills released the first “just add water” Betty Crocker cake mixes. The available flavors were Ginger, Spice, Yellow, and White. In 1948, Pillsbury introduced the first chocolate cake mix.
Today, the most popular kind of cake is chocolate. There are many different types, including Black Forest, Devil’s Food, Flourless, Fudge, Ganache, German Chocolate, Lava, and much more.
Whip up your favorite recipe to celebrate National Chocolate Cake Day!

Mini Treats

imagesCAEDNFHD11
Mini Treats, desserts and snacks are popping
up all over the place. They are the new trend at
weddings, parties, all types of events.
The little bite size dessert makes people tempted to try one. Then two and then three.
Usually you find them in little 2 oz glasses looking so cute.
I am starting to get so many requests for the dessert bars. Making sure you have enough for all your guests is the problem. When your guest see these little desserts it makes them try more than 1. Remember to have at least a choice of 4 to 6 different kinds. Prepare for at least 3 per person. Creating mini versions of your favorite dessert is great cause its fewer calories. It makes a great display. You will find your guests all around the dessert table and always coming back for more! Don't forget that it's also cute to put out the mini candies and cookies on your table too. Think outside the box and create something different with a mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Add icing to a mini Oreo and create something different. Let your imagination run wild if you are planing to display a dessert bar at your next event. If you all ready have had one, I would love to hear from you and
feature you for our up coming feature day.

Wedding Lingo

I found this from Bridal Guide Magazine.  I thought this was so clever.
I just had to share it with you.
Everyone even vendors like myself need to know the wedding lingo and keep up with it all.

When your talking about cakes.  The most common type of icing is
Buttercream- It's soft and creamy and very sweet.
Fondant- It's smooth, porcelain like finish it's more expensive then buttercream.
Royal Icing- a hard brittle type of icing and to me it does not taste so good. You find they ,make the flowers with this type of icing.

Catering

Canape- a bite-size appetizer served on a small round piece of bread
Corkage Fee- Many caterers charge a fee per bottle of alcohol just to open it during your reception. This charge is only if you supplied the bottles.
Crudites- An appetizer of raw vegetables served with dip.

Ceremony Music

Prelude- Quite gentle background music played at the beginning of the ceremony
Processional-Music played as the bridal party is walking down the aisle
Recessional-Upbeat music played at the end of the service.

Fashion

Blusher- A short thin layer of veiling worn over the face and flipped back when the bride reaches the alter
Fingertip- The length of this veil extends to the fingertips when the bride holds her hands straight down
Flyaway- A veil with multiple tiers, the longest at the shoulder
Basque Waist- A continuation of the bodice that dips below the natural waist in front ending in a point.

Invitations

Engraving- A formal Printing style, slightly raised lettering.
Thermography-a machine printing process that uses heated powder to give a raised look.

Flowers

Cascade-A bouquet style in which the blossoms are woven into a waterfall effect.
Filler-Inexpensive flowers used to fill out bouquets like baby's breath.
Pomander- A small round ball of flowers suspended from a ribbon handle.  Flower girls usually carry this.

Reception

Escort Cards- These direct guests to their tables.
Place cards-These can be used at very formal weddings
Table Cards- Displayed on reception table bearing a number or guests name to find their seat.

I hope I helped you with some of the lingo out there.  Some I even never heard before!!

Disney

I am starting to plan our trip again to the Magic Kingdom.  If you know our family, you know that we have been there over 100 times. We love it there. We have had season tickets for the past 15 years.  We have taken just about every tour possible.

I wanted to share some secrets that you might not know that we have learned on some of the tours we have taken in the past.

The cement on Main Street is mixed with rubber-like material that makes it softer on your feet.
The walkways are designed to stimulate your imagination from the Old Western paths in Frontierland to gem-studded in Adventure land.  They say each park tells a story from the bottom up.
Next time look down and see what your walking on. Each time you enter a new land
there is a new path.

Circles
They have designed the magic kingdom to make circle rules. From the round shapes of the ubiquitous Mickey Shaped balloons to the circular layout of the theme parks, its a loop after a loop . Everything curve flows into the next. They designed it that way to put people at ease.

Cascading Waters
Water is another design in Disney World. From Splash mountain, to Dumbo rushing water is proven to create positive, uplifting effect on your brain.  Disney had experts take a poll and it makes you happier and more alert.

The architecture of Disney World is designed to make you look up and inspire you
to reach for the stars.

Smell
Your sense of smell is the most closely associated a warm feeling.  Disney pumps out delicious scents from machines called smellitizers.  The next time your in the ice cream shop. When you walk in you smell waffle cones, and in the candy shop you smell the candy.  It makes you want to purchase food, candy even soda when you smell the scent from the moment you walk in.

Anyone else know any secrets that you would like to share?

Here we come Disney!!!

Party Time

It's that time of year when new sets of parties begin. I sit here and try to think of new ideas to offer my clients. Some like the old ideas and some want new, something fresh, something no one has had yet. So with everyone turning 1 year older what better way to celebrate then have a theme related to a certain decade. Here are some cool examples.

1930's have a jazz theme, swing and big bands.

1940's Casablanca, It;s a Wonderful World. Black and White Party make it into a gala. Movie theme.. Hollywood.

1950's Sock Hop, poodle shirts, glasses, line dance

1960's Give Peace a Change, Love, tie dye, colors

1970's Disco, big flashy stuff, lots of silver oh and don't forget the polyester.

1980's The breakfast club, Pretty in Pink, punk rock

1990's Friends, it's all about friends!

I also love surprise parties. To see their face when they really have no idea what just hit them. I did a surprise party for my husbands 40th. The look on his face was priceless

That gives me a place to start! There are so many cool things to incorporate. So many cool props you can have. Now it's on to Pinterest I bet I find hundreds of party ideas based on decades.s. It sure was a job to keep it a secret. That in itself was work.

follow these steps for a hush-hush party

plan ahead, the menu, cake, time to set up.

the invites make sure they say Surprise really big on the invitation

determine what time to have your guests there and what time the guest of honor should arrive.

I have a sweet sixteen that I am going to be doing in May. Hollywood, Sex in the City are the 2 themes I have to work with. I love it when I need to think outside the box!

Well this should get you on the right path in planning your next party when you want to have something different. If you have any other ideas I would love for you to share with me

A Differnt Time In My Life

This picture is of my children.
Aren't they beautiful?
This weekend I realized that I am now in a
 different phase in my life.
I am not sure if I am liking this part of my life yet.

My son is 21 and my daughter is going to be 17.
Of course I am happy, they are the best children a parent could ever have.
But today it hit me. My son works really hard holding 2 jobs and going to school. He now has a cute girlfriend that he spends a lot of time with. They are so cute together, I think they are perfect.
My daughter is a good student. She now has a boyfriend. He's a good boy. I have no complaints about him.
Both my children are happy! It's nice!

On Saturday nights I am used to the whole family hanging together. My husband and I never do anything without the children. That is just how it's always been. We go, we bring them..
This Saturday I cried. Both my kids were out. I sat here and looked around the house not knowing what to do with myself. My husband said now its our time to
enjoy and have fun.
Well I just could not believe that I am now going to be facing my time without them.
My friends say I will learn to enjoy my time. But for now I am sad, and I miss them!

If they happen to read my blog. I hope they know
how much I love them! How proud I am of them!
And mom will always be here no matter what!!!

Dessert Tables

Dessert Tables are one of the most popular requests I get from clients.
The traditional cake is a thing of the past.
Now dessert tables WOW your guests
at all types of parties.
Allowing guests to venture out and try different types of desserts is fun!  They always eat it too!!
Dessert bars do not always have to match your theme. Its all about the presentation. Use tables, tea carts, trolley carts as some o your props. It's about making your table stand out so they will remember and talk about it for months and months to come.
Having different types of desserts are fine. they don't have to be all the same color as long as they are packaged and arranged in a theme.
If your not sure how many to offer stick to what I do.
At least 6 to 8 offerings.
Even though no one can eat all that. It's better to have more then not enough. Your guests will eat it all.

If your on a budget offer marshmallows one of my favorite, cupcakes, and rice krispy treats.

Enjoy and have fun!

Saying Thank you

When I was reading my Martha Stewart magazines trying to get caught up. I ran across the some of her ideas for great gifts.  She is so smart and clever.  Some of these I would have never thought of.  They make perfect party favors for all events.  From Birthdays to Weddings. She always amazes me..

I wanted to share them with you..

Plants this one is from http://www.sprouthome.com
Each one comes with a packet of herb seeds and is really easy to wrap.  Great for a shower favor.

Candy, you know how I love candy!  I think they make a great gift no matter what.  This is so darn cute.  I might have to copy the idea!!

Notebooks. These are from Barnes and Noble.  I always forget to go there.  But these are pink and I love them.

This one is my favorite.Someone gave out Pallini Limoncello in the travel size, and it came with a shot glass. I want one just for myself.

Chocolates.  Who can go wrong with this?  It's nice when you sit down and at your chair and on your plate is a chocolate bar saying thank you.

These are so sweet.  Anyone else have any ideas?

New Years Day 2013

New Year's Day

It’s the first day of the New Year! The tradition of celebrating New Year’s Day began over 4,000 years ago in ancient Babylon. During that era, the calendar changed over on the first day of spring. In 153 BC, the Roman Senate changed the date for New Year's to January 1.
Today, New Year's Day signifies a time of new beginnings and resolutions. There are many traditions and festivals that take place on New Year's Day around the world. In California, people decorate carriages with flowers during the Tournament of Roses Parade in order to celebrate the ripening of the orange crop. In the Netherlands, people eat donuts because they believe it will bring them good fortune.
Making New Year’s resolutions is another popular tradition found around the world.

Happy New Year!!
